It’s a grape like fruit native to South America and grows on the trunk and branches, several compounds have been isolated from jaboticaba fruit, including jaboticabin, a depside unique to jaboticaba. Anthocyanins, the most abundant type of flavonoid in jaboticaba, are responsible for the color of its dark purple skin. The fruit also contains amino acids, vitamin C, calcium, iron, phosphorus and some B vitamins. Has large amounts of vitamin C and other vitamins such as vitamin E, folic acid, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin; minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, copper, manganese and zinc.
The properties of its shell are rich in anthocyanidin, or Vitamin R said to be 50 times more potent than Vitamin E and 20 times more potent than Vitamin C. Anthocyanidins are commonly found in fruits and vegetables. It has antioxidant properties and helps fight free radicals.
